Experience:
I have been trained to work out and assess the bacteriological profile and immunological status of the patient. I have also trained in virology for virus isolation by tissue culture and detection of viral antigen and antibody by immunological tests. In the initial two years I rotated through most microbiological specialities under direct consultant supervision (Bacteriology, Virology, Parasitology, Infectious diseases, Mycology, Serology and Molecular Methods). During the third year I had supervisory responsibility for the medical students, nursing staff and junior doctors in addition to the laboratory duties at Senior Registrar level. As part of the training program I conducted a research study looking into the Bacteriology of burn and postoperative wound infection which was accepted by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) a Deemed University recognized by the Medical Council of India and the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom as a dissertation for an MD degree in Medical Microbiology with a special interest in Infectious diseases.
My position as a lecturer in Medical Microbiology representing the Manipal College of Medical Sciences, Pokhara, Nepal, ensured that Microbiology training was promoted and maintained at high quality (post graduate medical students (MD and MSc, medical students MBBS, Medical documentation Technology, BSc Nursing, Post certificate BSc Nursing, Bachelor of Physiotherapy and SHO’s). The unit was committed to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. I was responsible for the weekly postgraduate teaching program, and supervising and assessing Medical Students. I took active part in the audit of the unit.
